Introduction to Aeons Ancient Roots Olive Oil

When looking for a high polyphenol olive oil for health benefits, you are very likely to have stumbled across the brand Ancient Roots Olive Oil. It is a heavily marketed brand - but is it everything it claims to be? And is it worth the very high price tag of £47.95 on Amazon? Here is our honest review and some things to consider before making a purchase alongside some alternative oils that are worth a consideration if you are looking to purchase an olive oil for health benefits.

Quality & Certification

What's important when purchasing an extra virgin olive oil for health is its polyphenol level. This is something you want to be over 600mg/kg. Many brands claim to be high polyphenol with no proof or transparency of their numbers. It's really important to look at their 3rd party certification as proof of quality. Unfortunately Ancient Roots does not publish their certification - which is a huge red flag!. There is no way of verifying its quality without it!

Price

Ancient roots is priced at £49.95 per 250ml bottle. This is VERY expensive - especially for a non-certified olive oil. For comparison - Pamako (which is the highest polyphenol olive oil available in the UK with 2,000mg/kg polyphenols and 3rd party certification) is priced at £44.95 for 500ml - thats 50% cheaper!

Entry level costs for a good high polyphenol olive oil start around £20.00. The most popular high polyphenol olive oil on Amazon is November which has over 1,000mg/kg polyphenols and costs £24.50 for 500ml. They currently sell over 5,000 bottles a month on amazon with rave reviews. Another popular choice for those who are looking for a great tasting high polyphenol olive oil to add to their dishes is OvLimits. This is an Italian olive oil with over 1,300mg/kg polyphenols and has a smooth (yet still peppery taste).

Organic certification

Ancient roots talks a lot about how the sourced their oil from a farm in Tuscany with rich volcanic soil and ethical farming and states it is clear of antioxidants. However it does not have organic certification. Pamako, Ovlimits and November all have organic certification so you know that no pesticides have been used in their production.

Award winning

Ancients roots is backed by its founder - GP , Dr Sarah Brewer. However, it has no 3rd party awards regarding taste or health benefits. Pamako and November have both been awarded Gold for health and taste in numerous well respected olive oil competitions and proudly display their badges on their bottles or website.

Summary

If you are looking for a good quality extra virgin olive oil which is rich in polyphenols with the ambition to improve your health it is very much advised in this market to pick one that has 3rd party quality verification. Unfortunately Aeons Ancient Roots Olive Oil has none - just a VERY expensive price tag and a Dr founder. Therefore we advise you look for more transparent and 3rd party verified olive oils such as Pamako, November and Ovlimits.
